Working process and recreating lost pieces

What a joy and honour it is to be working on our amazing quilt of many colours - adding in the last few pieces, filling the remaining spaces with the little triangles, circles, hearts, birds and other gorgeous snippety pieces that people have sent in for the purpose, then spending many happy hours adding slow-stitched details to secure everything, close any gaps, and blend it all together into one cohesive piece.
Here are a few photos showing progress over the last few weeks. My first task was to get all the pieces stitched in place, discreetly securing any loose pieces as I went.
As you can see, they’re being placed at random angles and there’s no consistent orientation.
But I am looking at colours and shapes and grouping them together in a pleasing way, aiming at a kind of cohesive chaos!
When placing the pieces, I’m also considering family groups, and friends who worked together on the quilt, just because I think that feels right.
Once all the pieces are on I will work on filling gaps and stitching or couching between all the pieces so none of the backing shows and everything is blended and secure. Finally, the backing will be added, and the quilt will be hand-tied and edged to finish it off.
All of this will probably take some months, but I’m going to relax and enjoy the process. I will keep sharing photos and videos so you see how our beautiful quilt evolves, until eventually it is ready to go up for auction, with the proceeds going to the charity chosen by our community.
