Progress so far

After a few extra days in Sussex, spending time with the lovely Kas, who had come all the way from Australia, I’ve now brought our amazing Bonkers Quilt home to finish. Time to take stock of what we’ve done and how much I still have to do!
What a joyful and heartwarming project this is proving to be - I was delighted to have so many people of all ages and abilities joining us at the Bazaar August Show, and I’ve already been blown away by the creativity and generosity of people sending pieces in to add to our quilt. Who knows what the next few weeks and months may bring?
The picture below shows how it was looking at the end of the weekend at the show.
You can see that there are still plenty of spaces left, which is good, because more pieces have continued to arrive while I’ve been away - I’ll have more to share with you over the next few days.
Here’s a pic of what it looked like before I went away, spread out on my sitting-room floor ready to be packed up.
It measures approximately 2.5m x 1.5m - it was very difficult to decide how big to make the backing, as I’ve no idea how many pieces will be sent in.
So, now begins the painstaking process of adding all the pieces that get sent in, securing everything, and filling the gaps with fabric and thread, until there are no spaces left. Once all of that is done, I will need to back it, tie it, and bind it - but that’s a long way down the road yet! Wish me luck :)
